Floral Portraiture 101

McKinley's mom wanted to do something extra special for her very first child. This wasn't just any special day as a newborn, this was in fact, a true flower girl's day - and this is her story. Blissfully smiling and so ever curious, her very first time behind the lens turned out to be an exciting outdoor excursion. This little bundle of beauty gravitated towards the velvety pedals of her surroundings. This baby floral portrait session was created by her Mother Kim, business owner and photographer at Amber Stone Photography. Amber is a true inspiration to local Islanders through health and wellness photography. We chose a punchy floral combination, accented by rich greenery to bring out McKinley's vibrant powder blue eyes, a soulful colour you truly can only see reflecting off of the deep blue ripples of the West Coast waters we have all come to love.

Beautiful pink and ruffled outfits, a soft white fluffy blanket, and a magical garden-inspired floral portrait ring was used to capture the beauty that is McKinley. The perfectly sculpted round features of Mckinley's personality and face were complimented in all the right ways while she happily posed her very own circular floral haven. The pastel hues of the Majolica spray rose pairs nicely with the soft glow of McKinley's little plump cheeks.

After exploring venues and numerous onsite locations, we opted to set up in Bowen Park in Nanaimo, B.C. We were blessed with a beautiful afternoon light to capture this little flower child's soft milky way skin and precious smile. Outdoor summer portraits are some of my client's absolute favourites, there is just something so magical about the endless summer light and calming sounds of birds chirping in the background. The dearest part about capturing newborns  is letting them be who they are and capturing their very first moments of personality, a fleeting moment in time, indeed. The best part? We did it without too many expectations, thanks Mckinley! At the end of a hot summer's day, what truly matters, is the memories and the people we get to experience them with. To capture real and raw emotion, through timeless floral photographs, - now that is an expereince that can be treasured forever.
